Spring 1991: queer life is under attack in Britain, and Derek Jarman is turning Edward II into a radical protest film. Told through unseen behind-the-scenes footage, this is a story of the power and cost of queer visibility — then and now.

His opponents accused him of being homosexual. The male favorites he gathered around him during his short life gave those malevolent enemies solid arguments to do so. He would not have failed if he had proved himself to be an energetic king. But Edward II of England (1284-1327) never was a king like Edward I Longshanks, his father, or Edward III, his son, were. And his end is shrouded in myth and mystery.

Edward, an AI scientist, realizes that the program he developed has been applied to military weapons and caused many deaths.

This is Su Zhong's second VR project, which combines imagery, dance and installation to create a kind of dialogue. It is an attempt at a directorial approach that falls somewhere between film and theatre. All of the scenes are taken from the paintings of Edward Hopper.

Rather than depict a specific story, they suggest a universal, shared experience. This film traces Hopper's varied influences, from French impressionism to the gangster films of the 1930s. The documentary uses archival photos and film, specially shot footage of locations painted by Hopper in New York and the New England coast, and interviews with artists Eric Fischl and Red Grooms, scholars, and curators.
